While working as an Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor in the 1940’s, Dr Alfred Tomatis noticed a curious pattern. He found many military patients who had suffered hearing damage also had “matching” vocal deficiencies. At the same time, he also had a number patients who were singers, they came to him for help as their voices had started to deteriorate throughout their singing careers. Tomatis noticed the singers had the OPPOSITE but EQUAL problem as his military patients: their vocal damage also had “matching” hearing deficiencies!

This revolutionary finding led to the cornerstone of Dr Tomatis’ work and the Tomatis method: “the human voice can only make sounds the human ear can receive.”

Since the development of the Tomatis method over 60 years ago, a large and growing body of research has been made available. We try to keep our site updated with the latest research, included below are some external resources as well.
