Sound Therapy is a listening program to improve ear and brain health. By stimulating the auditory pathways and the brain, it improves hearing and auditory processing, reduces tinnitus, stress, fatigue and insomnia. Listeners report better hearing in a noisy room, better concentration, focus and memory, better learning and academic performance, better balance and co-ordination, relief of dizziness and vertigo and a general feeling that the brain is sharper and communication is easier.
Sound Therapy is a unique listening system using new knowledge about the brain.
Based on the discoveries of the ear specialist, Dr Tomatis, the method developed by Patricia and Rafaele Joudry is now available as a portable self help program that can be used by anyone, anywhere.
Specially recorded programs of highly filtered classical music are used to rehabilitate the ear and stimulate the brain. Sound Therapy stimulates the ear by presenting it with constantly alternating sounds of high and low tone, within the complex structure of classical music. Stimulation via the sensory pathways re-maps the brain, improving the way we understand and process sound. The brain, in turn, sends signals back to the ear to improve its function. One theory suggests that this feedback loop results in better performance of the middle ear muscles and of the tiny, hair-like receptor cells in the inner ear.
As the ear becomes open and receptive to high frequency sounds these are then passed on to the brain. Research has shown that brain function is improved through high frequency sound. There is an increase in blood flow to certain centres along with increased electrical activity. The results observed in Sound Therapy listeners include increased energy, reduced fatigue with improved focus and creativity, a reduction in the need for sleep, and an almost permanent state of peace and relaxation.
The self help program is done using the Ultra Light personal music headset player and Listeners' Workbook. It is easy to do and takes no time out of your day. In fact many people say it gives them an extra two or three hours a day, due to the reduced need for sleep!
Sound Therapy is listened to on portable equipment at low volume as you go about your daily activities. It is very simple to use and takes no time out of your day. However, as it is a self help program, listeners do need to read one of Rafaele Joudry's books: Sound Therapy: Music to Recharge your Brain or Triumph Over Tinnitus or Why Aren't I Learning? in order to understand the correct use of the program and to answer any questions that might come up. The Talking Book is available for those who are visually impaired or prefer to listen rather than read.
Sound Therapy can be listened to on a specifically engineered new personal digital audio headset player called the Sound Therapy Ultra Light. It can also be listened to on a personal CD player. Sound Therapy must be listened to through headphones (or earphones) not through speakers. A portable player is essential as it allows you to move around so you get in the required hours of listening without any interference with your daily activities.
The required listening time for adults is three hours per day and for children 30 to 60 minutes. However Sound Therapy takes no time out of your day at all as you listen during your usual daily activities or sleep. The time for results to be achieved varies from a few days to a few months. On average the program takes between six weeks and three months to achieve full results.
Sound Therapy is played at very low volume on portable equipment so it does not interfere with any other activities. While listening you can read, work, exercise, talk, listen to radio or TV, have a conversation, talk on the phone, use a computer or even sleep. In fact, Patricia Joudry said in her book that you can do Sound Therapy during any activity except tennis or sex!
Full listening instructions are provided in the book: Sound Therapy: Music to Recharge Your Brain by Rafaele Joudry or in Rafaele's second book, Triumph Over Tinnitus.

"My hearing was progressively deteriorating and my social life disintegrating as I could not possibly concentrate on a conversation in an environment with a cross current of various conversations. When trying to sing in church I could not hear my own voice, and so gave up trying. Whereas I used to enjoy music, now it just existed and gave me very little lift. I had to try so hard to distinguish any words a soloist was singing.
Road noise drove me frantic. The noises I did not want to hear became a maddening roar, and those I wanted to hear I could not.
After listening to the Sound Therapy program, all this is changing. It brings tears of gratitude to my eyes, this recharging of life, made possible by this wonderful therapy. I can now hear the timbre in my own voice as I sing equally with that of others, and I can even hear the birds singing as I walk in the park. I am using my hearing aids less and less.
It is more than just improved hearing though. I find myself able and willing to communicate with people, it is easier to smile and reciprocate love.

I suffered from Tinnitus for several years until it reached the stage where it was difficult to go to sleep. I consulted a doctor who advised that there was nothing that could be done to cure the problem. My wife then bought me a set of four of your Sound Therapy tapes. After several months the annoyance had abated considerably and for years now I haven't the slightest sign of it returning.
Thanking you for your incalculable assistance in the past.

"My husband and I are orchardists, we have a biodynamic avocado plantation. I do all the office work and the bookwork and my husband does the other side of it. I am now 74 and I'm still very active mentally and physically. When I was about 43, I had my first tinnitus attack. At the time I didn't know what it was. Eventually after going to specialists who did brain scans where they found nothing they determined that it was Meniere's syndrome. I continued to suffer from Meniere's syndrome until I found Sound Therapy.
I had tinnitus as well, which also got considerably better when I used Sound Therapy. I also got my hearing to the stage where it was almost normal and I could hear on the phone.
I would describe my experience with Meniere's as horrific. I think anyone that has Meniere's would say it's horrific, if they have the severe one. I ended up in the hospital, on one occasion because I couldn't stop vomiting and you feel as though you are falling through the floor. You are lying on the floor and you are hanging onto the floor virtually in terror because you feel as if you are flying backwards. It's the balance in the middle ear that's effected, and it's terrifying, to the point where I was almost suicidal at one stage. I said I won't live with this, if I have to live with this I will have to leave the planet. From what I've heard, anyone that's ever had it feels the same way. They don't really want to live, you lose interest in life, it's such a shocking feeling. No one can describe it, you have to experience it. So fortunately I didn't panic, I found ways to control it.
It got to the stage when it was bad, where I was getting an attack once a week. It would take a week to get over it and then I would get another one. The attacks would last for about two or three hours but it didn't then leave me in a healthy state. I would be ill then for a week, feeling ghastly and just generally ill.
I dealt with it by taking every precaution and used the Sound Therapy constantly, which helped a lot. To begin with, I had the Sound Therapy on all day. I used to have it in a bum-bag and it sat on my hip wherever I went. I took it to the shopping centre, wherever I was I had it going. At that time using the Sound Therapy stopped my Meniere's attacks entirely. Later I also used chelation therapy, a natural way of cleaning out the arteries with concentrated nutrients, and that was also extremely beneficial.

My problem was that I had a blocked ear, it wasn't blocked all the time, it would just come and go. I couldn't connect it to anything in particular, it would just block up. And nothing that I had attempted made any difference to it whatsoever. So I used Sound Therapy and after I'd listened to the tapes for about 2 to 3 months then within a period of a week it slowly started to clear and by the end of the week it was just totally clear and I hadn't experienced that before.
I think my ear had been blocked for most of my life and I tried a number of things over the last 3 to 4 year and they didn't work. It would block up and get unblocked and I didn't seem to have any control over it. It was only through listening to Sound Therapy every day for at least 3 hours that it started to clear. Sound Therapy really cleared my ear and I feel very liberated by that . I feel like I can sing, which is something that's really important to me and I didn't think that I ever would be able to.
I don't know why it works, I find it a bit of mystery but I like the mystery of it.

About eight years ago, I read an article in a Women's magazine about the damaging effects of loud noise on our hearing. Sound Therapy was mentioned.
Since I was suffering of frequent ringing in my ears, was very sensitive to noise, with frequent headaches etc., I rang the phone number given on the article.
I read the book in one sitting. I was so impressed, that immediately after reading it, I purchased the tapes. I have said many times since, that the few hundred dollars I spent buying the tapes was the best investment I ever made for my health. From the very first moment I started listening , I knew they were going to do me good.
I couldn't get enough. I listened for 6 hours straight. That same night I slept with my headphones on. I was amazed and very pleased.
A few months later, the ringing in my ears, my regular dizzy spells, and my headaches, were largely gone . I felt so energized that I went from needing 8-9 hours sleep a night, to only 7. Many times since, I have woken up feeling fully rested after only 5 or 6 hours of sleep.
Sound Therapy has certainly made a great difference to the enjoyment of my life. My ears and I are very grateful.

"I have had some beautiful benefits from using the tapes - trebled energy, less sleep needed, steadier moods, more focused concentration - and I have notes in the top of my vocal range which are brand new."
P.S., some months later: "My voice continues to soar eaglebound in new ways!"

Lifted a veil from my ears
I have suffered from insomnia and chronic back pain for many years and to make things worse, a disc problem developed early last year in my lower back and I haven't been able to sit properly for nearly 18 months!
I'm currently in the early stages of separating from my husband (having been married for 16 years). Both my daughter and I have suffered much psychological and emotional abuse which I know has been the cause of many of my health problems.
During the middle of August last month, my 11-year-old daughter and I had to seek urgent refuge at a "safe house". We ended up staying in a small empty apartment next to a busy main road on the other side of town. The apartment was undergoing renovations and the telephone wasn't connected and there was no food or furniture, although we were given a mattress, sheets, pillows, a TV and a few items of extra clothing, with a few items of food to last until the next day.
To say the least, the stress I was under was enormous - I didn't know how long we would have to be in this apartment either.
Thankfully, there was an electric clothes dryer for us to use but my nervous system was so taxed by exhaustion and stress that I found the noise from it going proved to be very unpleasant!
It was during the middle of this crisis that I received the Basic Sound Therapy Kit and Panasonic Walkman (God worked a miracle here!). I purchased some batteries and decided to begin listening to one of the tapes the same night I received the kit. I chose to listen to the third tape (not realizing that you're supposed to start with the first one, as I hadn't read the instructions properly) and to my amazement, the sound of the electric dryer going the next day didn't bother me at all!
After just one night of listening to the sound Therapy cassette tape (about 8 hours), I couldn't believe the difference!!!
Since then, I have been listening to these tapes each night and I have noticed an improvement with my singing and music. It's as though a "veil" has been lifted from my ears and my hearing of the notes and sound vibrations is so much clearer and guitar playing has been more enjoyable.

"Although I still have Tinnitus (for which I began the Sound Therapy) I feel sure it isn't as loud, but the other benefits are great. I am in my 5th month and can now scrape up the energy to make a cake in the late afternoon before I put the dinner on- unheard of for the past many years. My husband of 52 years doesn't feel he lands himself in nearly the amount of trouble he used to with the crazy male way he tries to help me. I certainly have new vitality and sense of well being which makes it easier for me to tolerate the odd person who used to irritate me!
All in all, I am a very satisfied customer and am in no way going to become lax about my 4 hours each day (I do 4 to make up for the intervals on the tape and the times it stops and I don't immediately notice)."

"I listened dutifully to the tapes for over 200 hours (averaging 6 to 7 hours a day) until a remarkable change occurred in my sleeping patterns. I began to awake at 5:30 in the morning after 5 to 6 hours sleep, and was fully refreshed and ready to leap into action. Previously I needed 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep per night. I am now a morning member of a gym and have plenty of time to pursue study interests, all before leaving for work. I am continuing to listen and maintain my new sleeping patterns. I have also noticed that I rarely get a stiff neck working at my desk. I often listen while engaged in work and find my concentration is excellent. I feel I am very lucky to have accidentally discovered Sound Therapy and would heartily recommend it to anyone, particularly those wanting to get more out of life.
